Our Mission

is to eliminate homophobia and transphobia through honest conversation and creative expression.

Don't BE Afraid works to raise funds to pursue this mission and to support like-minded organizations that inspire social change through activism. We operate with these core values at the heart of our work:

BE proactive.

The Don't BE Afraid Campaign works to create a non-judgmental forum for discussing the fear associated with homophobia and transphobia. Together, we can dissolve the fear surrounding homosexuality and transsexuality. We can promote a deeper level of acceptance of all human beings.

BE brave.

Every day we're given opportunities to be brave.  Having that 'tough' conversation when we hear something discriminatory or hateful, rather than looking the other way.  Asking questions, speaking out, and doing so without silencing or shaming others.  Awareness is about education, creating a dialogue, and opening hearts and minds.

"Real love is not just a word, but it is in the actions of those who would love. Just as courage is not just a word, but the actions of those who would stand up against those who would do harm to others." Halifax, Nova Scotia

BE creative.

Creativity is one of the main components of the Don't BE Afraid campaign. Creative expression through art, music, and theatre is a powerful tool for change. The Don't BE Afraid campaign encourages everyone to utilize art as a means for discussion about homophobia and transphobia in society.

BE the change.

Now is the time to make a change - worldwide, in the media, and in collaboration with our children and youth. Together, we can be the change we wish to see in the world.
